The main constituent found in bee poison, between 50% and 60%, is the Melitinia, a peptide that has stimulating properties for the heart, lowers blood pressure, hydrates tissue, which is a potent anti-inflammatory of the central nervous system.

Other substances found in bee poison are deamino, histamine, fosfolipasi A2 and in smaller amounts, amino, noradrenaline and dopamine, peptides, phospholipids and carbohydrates.
