HEALTH AND NUTRITION

The therapeutic properties of honey have been known since ancient times. Medical researches and studies are still confirming this fact. It is a "food" collected by bees from the living parts of plants or from secretion of insects, carried it to their beehives; they process it, enrich it and store it in the honeycombs until it matures.

Honey contains more than 180 different ingredients and elements, such as water as a percentage of 16%, and natural sugars, such as fructose, sucrose and others as a percentage of 80%, as well as proteins, minerals, enzymes and vitamins in small amounts.

Its significance is not so much about the sub-components of honey, as the coexistence of all those into a mass of specifically designated optimal proportions and of course the way in which they act in the body. The mineral elements in honey, minerals and amino acids play an important role in metabolism and nutrition, and contribute in various enzyme systems of the body.

Honey is widely used for healing cuts and surgical wounds.

The propolis collected by bees from tree exudates, to which they add their own substances, has excellent antimicrobial and disinfectant properties and can be a useful barrier against infection.

According to the latest results of a recent study on different varieties of Greek honeys, some of them have the ability to protect the DNA of cells after exposure to oxidation factors responsible for natural ageing, as well as a number of serious diseases, such as cardiovascular and neuro-degenerative disorders.

Finally, honey is one of the best youth elixirs, offering good health and longevity, particularly to those who have embraced it in their daily diet.
